About Us
Founded in 1948 by Joseph Soper, along with his brother and business partner Donald, Soper Brothers and Associates rapidly grew to become one of the most innovative ophthalmic practices in the country. Joseph lost his eye during World War II, because of this, his understanding, tenderness and care for the patient was very special and is deeply entrenched within the spirit of the company today.
Joseph was responsible for numerous contact lens patents and designs that revolutionized early contact lens wear and acceptability. His early work as an ocularist came during a time when a great deal of imagination and technical ingenuity were required to bridge the gap between the suppliers of stock glass artificial eyes to the use of today’s custom medical grade plastic ocular prosthetics.
Marcus Soper, Joseph’s son, joined the practice in 1977 and is the current owner, continues the tradition of professional experience, long-standing presence in the community, and willingness to serve both patients and referring doctors. A legacy of innovation also continues as Marcus is well known for his contributions to the field and is responsible for numerous contact lens designs, patents and manufacturing techniques.
Marcus is a Board Certified Ocularist, Board Approved Diplomate Ocularist, Fellow Member of the American Society of Ocularist, Fellow Member of the Contact Lens Society of America and holds the National Contact Lens Examiners Advanced Certification. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Ocularist, the Contact Lens Society of Texas, the Opticians Association of Texas and the Contact Lens Society of America. Mr. Soper is a past president of the American Society of Ocularist and the Contact Lens Society of America.
Soper Brothers and Associates has earned the reputation as a premier source for special contact lens needs and ocular prosthetic services.
